The outgoing Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Mr. Mike Okoli says the Police force is a job for only dedicated and professional individuals, not for failures and school dropouts.

 

According to him, it is not a job for people who consider it as a last option after they had failed severally to secure other  jobs, stressing that it is not for dullards.

 

Okoli, who spoke in the evening of Saturday, July 24, during a sent forth party organized in his honour by the Command, at the Police Officers Mess, Yenagoa, said the work of the police should be done with honesty and integrity.

 

“Always do police job with the fear of God, show honesty, integrity, and seriousness”.

 

Okoli, who is bowing out of the Police after 33 years of service, urged officers and men of the command, to shun brutality and intimation of the public, but to serve and protect them.

 

He, commended the officers and men for their cordial relationship and the support they gave him, adding that it was a good thing for him to retire in good health and also to have served humanity and the general public without blemish.

 

“You have to prepare for your retirement early enough, so that when it comes it will easy for the individual. Police job is not for dull individuals, or failures who think if no option let’s just try police work.

 

“Always do police job with the fear of God, show honesty, integrity, and show seriousness. When I was posted here in Bayelsa, I told my people that we are here to fight crime, and no place for criminals in the state,” he said.

 

He urged them to continue as he has set a template and standard for them to follow, noting that Bayelsa is rated among the safest states in Nigeria, as people sleep with their two eyes closed.

 

The out-going CP added that without a peaceful environment business can never thrive, but that investors have started coming to Bayelsa as a safe haven.

 

In his remark, Mr. Robert Enogha, the Chairman, Eminent Persons Forum, in the state, commended the out-going CP, for his stewardship in Bayelsa.

 

He said during the end SARS protest and IPOB demonstration, Okoli never allowed it to come close to Bayelsa, because of his professionalism in policing.

 

On his part, AIG Don Awunah, who was also a former Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, commended the out-going CP, for his uprightness in tackling crime.

 

He said Okoli is a seasoned Police Officer, who knows his duty beyond all odds, and has taken the Force to the next level in Bayelsa.
