Alex Iwobi received a late red card as Nigeria’s Super Eagles were held to a 2-2 draw by Jordan in the last match of their two-game international friendly tour in Turkey on Tuesday.
Mousa Tamari opened the scoring for Jordan from a free kick routine out of the training ground in the 17th minute before Moses Simon equalised for Nigeria through a well-placed volley into the bottom right corner of the post nine minutes later.
Nigeria grabbed the lead for the first time in the 41st minute courtesy of unmarked Emmanuel Fernandez, who calmly slotted home a cross into the six-yard box on his full debut for the Eagles.
Adebayo Adeleye replaced Francis Uzoho in the early minutes of the second half after the latter was subbed off due to injury following a clearance.
Despite Nigeria having the momentum after the break, it was the Jordanians who scored in the 77th minute to ensure the spoils were shared at the Mardan Sports Complex.
Iwobi was shown a straight red card in added time following a retaliatory push after he was fouled during a counterattack. This led to a confrontation among several team members from Jordan and Nigeria.
After missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the two games played during the current international break served as part of Nigeria’s preparations for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
