Two funeral days took place yesterday. West Nigeria, the mother of a banker lawyer. To Oba, to the east, the mother of an entrepreneur.

 

The banker from the west who was to first to bury his mother received a visit from former central bank governors of Nigeria, ministers and federal. There was even a former president.

 

The other one in Oba from the Eastern part of Nigeria saw an unprecedented mobilization. Youths, entrepreneurs, businessmen, Nollywood stars, social media influencers, curious, fans.. in short, of the world!

 

 

Nigerian social media and mainstream media only talk about the funeral of Obi Cubana's mother, Oba's man. The photos. Money in cash, donations, extravagance and atmosphere.

 

 

Beyond any comment we can make about the form of these two events, one thing holds my attention. There is a change. The lines have moved. You have to realize that.

 

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede is a well-known banker. There is a wikipedia page in his name where he is posted as a philanthropist. All of his ′′ accomplishments ′′ are recorded and well presented, in a well arranged academic chronology. On the other hand Obi Cubana, by his real name Obinna Iyiegbu, didn't have much online tracks or great degrees. He tells himself everywhere, that he invested in lives. That he encouraged those he invested in to invest in other people's lives. He has grown his business, but he has bet a lot more in people's lives.

 

That's why his mother's funeral opportunity turned into a demonstration of popular strength. A show of ′′ support to the one who has always supported us ". A mobilization to build a hero who REALLY makes the difference in the lives of men and women.

 

 

There is a change. The lines have moved. You have to realize that. We can exercise the power, delude ourselves that we are governing and that we are the ones who move the country. But citizens are making everyday men and women who don't have titles, young people who haven't graduated, entrepreneurs who push others to come true.

 

 

There is a change. The lines have moved. You have to realize that. Power is no longer the only source of power. Money raised for yourself at the expense of others is no longer the only source of strength.
