Emohua Local Government Chairman, Chidi Lloyd has reiterated his administration’s intolerance to lateness and absenteeism to duty by local government staff.
Â
Lloyd said the days when people just have their names on the council payroll to receive salaries at the end of the month without doing any work for the local government are over.
Â
Addressing a mammoth crowd of Emohua Local Government workers at the council secretariat on Thursday, the council chairman promised to provide office spaces with basic amenities in the council secretariat to accommodate the staff of the council.
Â
He urged the staff of the local government to support his administration in repositioning the local government area and promised to grant unhindered access to his office.
Â
Responding to questions and requests from the staff of the council, Lloyd promised to provide staff buses for council staff to subsidize the cost of transportation to work but insisted that every council staff must justify their pay.
Â
“My administration will give unfiltered access to council staff but we won’t give room for you to run each other down, learn to love one another but don’t support what’s not right.
Â
“We shall support you by providing buses to convey our workers to the council, to subsidize the cost of transportation.
Â
See Emohua Local Government as your own, join us to change the narrative, join us to reposition this local governmentâ€, he said.
Â
On the delayed workers salary, the council chairman sympathized with the workers for the delay but insisted that his administration will not pay salaries without the nominal roll of the departments in the council.
Â
He directed the heads of departments of the local government to provide the nominal roll of their respective workers.
Â
“I want to know how many workers in each department and the entire local government.
Â
“We must be ready to correct the anomalies in the council; for example people in grade level 4 earning salaries of grade level 12 that has to stop. I will not condone a situation where a group of people will be feeding fat with our common wealth. We are going to investigate the corrupt practices in the system and whoever is found wanting will be punished.
Â
Your salaries are intact but your heads of department must produce the nominal rolls so that we can start the payment.
Â
“We intend to pay May and June salaries together but we need to know those we are paying, we can’t continue to pay ghost workers,†he said.
Â
The council chairman graciously granted pardon to council workers whom he had earlier directed to be issues queries for lateness to work on Wednesday and urged them to turn a new leaf.
Â
Our correspondent reports that earlier, the local government chairman led principal officers and staff of the council on a general cleaning of the council environment.
